Yesterday, I had the priviledge of visiting a newly opened nature preserve in the Fort Caroline area of Jacksonville. This preserve, named the Jacksonville Arboretum and Gardens, recently opened on November 15, 2008.

Currently, the preserve is still under construction, as of now there are only three trails opened, and it is only open to the public on the weekends. The Jacksonville Arboretum and Gardens contains a good collection of the flora and fauna found in Florida.

On the website, which is linked above in this article, has several goals listed for the nature preserve. Those goals include conservation, education, research, collection and recreation. The website describes each of these goals in detail.

On the preserve, there is a lake, a ravine that contains two spring fed creeks whick flow into a larger creek called Jones Creek. It also contains many plant samples, which are labled on the path.
