I In this week's outdoor column, I am going to feature a favorite spot of mine. That is the spring that Green Cove Springs in North East Florida is named for. This spring flows into a city pool, and then flows on into the Saint Johns River.
With a constant water temperature of 78 degrees, Green Cove Spring is located in a city park on the west bank of the Saint John's River, The spring itself is 20 feet wide and is surrounded by a two foot wall. The cavern itself forms an irregularly shaped funnel and extends down 31.5 feet. Water empties from the spring pool into a municipal swimming pool. The water, which has a slight sulfuric smell, flows through the pool and empties out the other end forming the spring run which flows into the Saint Johns River.
